What’s the Best Oil Filter for Synthetic Oil?

September 27, 2017 / in Oil Filters, Synthetic Oil Filters

The use of synthetic oil has been on the rise for years following the federal Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standard’s initiative to have automakers maximize engine efficiency and cut carbon pollution. As a result of the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) effort to rapidly increase CAFE levels, the aftermarket is experiencing a monumental shift in the garage. However, by taking the right approach, this shift can lead to new opportunities for your business!

The Verdict is in – Synthetic Oil Is Better

Conventional and synthetic oils begin with the same raw material, but that’s about the only similarity between the two. The synthetic variety is heavily refined, distilled, and purified before being broken down into basic individual molecules. This process tailors the molecules to stand up to the rigorous demands of modern engines, which are precision manufactured to much lower tolerances than engines in older vehicles. A recent study by AAA confirms that there is no question that synthetic oil outperforms conventional oil – and if consumers want to take full advantage of all the benefits, they’ll need a synthetic oil filter.

Maximize Engine Protection

All of the oil filters that we manufacture are fully compatible with synthetic lubricants – this includes both conventional spin-on filters and the cartridge, or “eco” variety. While it’s possible to use a conventional filter with synthetic lubricants, to do so would be completely defeating the purpose. The suppliers of these higher quality oils promise engine protection for extended ranges, which can only be attained with a synthetic oil filter. Synthetic filters are engineered with capacity, efficiency, and longevity in mind. Without the added capacity, the oil filter won’t be able to capture and hold all of the additional contaminants that are likely to build up during extended oil change service intervals.

It’s What’s Inside That Counts

A synthetic oil filter should be manufactured with either full synthetic, or synthetic blend filtration media and feature a silicone anti-drain back valve to provide extended engine protection. Our blend, for example, offers high efficiency while providing twice the filtration capacity of a conventional oil filter. These key components are needed to protect engines for the extended ranges that consumers expect to see by using synthetic oil.

Keep it Simple

As more and more automakers factory-fill engines with synthetic oil, it’s critical that service professionals have the oil filter product range to match. Be prepared for customers that will require synthetic oil and the right synthetic oil filter to go with it. When they ask, “What’s the best oil filter for synthetic oil?” Keep it simple – match the filter to the oil.
